Dysmenorrhea is the medical term for the painful cramps that may occur immediately before or during the menstrual period.

1. Use a warm bottle now to treat menstrual cramps

Heat can help to treat menstrual cramp as it helps to soothe the pain. If you have a heating pad at home, heat it for some time and then place it on the lower abdomen. Placing heating pad on the lower abdomen helps to soothe the pain and treat cramps in a matte of hours. Now if you don’t own a heating pad, you can use a plastic bottle to treat period cramps. Fill the bottle with warm bottle and then place it over your lower abdomen. This will work like magic.

2. Ginger soaks up period pain

Ginger is one among the greatest herbs that helps to treat menstrual cramps. Ginger helps to lower the levels of the pain-causing prostaglandins in the body and also helps to fight fatigue associated with premenstrual syndrome. To include ginger in your diet during those days of the month, you need to grate ginger and add it to a bowl filled with water. Then boil this water before allowing it to cool down.

3. Boil basil with water and drink it

Another effective remedy to ease menstrual cramps is using basil during those days of your period. Caffeic acid present in basil has analgesic, or pain-killing properties due to which basil leaves are an effective remedy. Take a handful of basil leaves and add it to water and then allow the water to boil for sometime. Now drink this water twice in day. Drinking basil water can help to treat menstrual cramp instantly. Another way to have basil leaves is to chew a handful of them.

4. Guzzle down some warm water

Drinking lots of water can benefit you during your periods, and can also help relieve you from excruciating menstrual cramps. Instead of drinking room temperature water, you should boil it a touch and then drink it. As it has already been established before, heat helps to deliver you from your pain and hence make drinking warm water a part of your routine in those days. If needed, you can add a small amount of honey and lemon to the warm water and then drink it everyday in the morning.

5. Cinnamon-scented water also helps

Cinnamon is one of the most common spices found in every kitchen, and is also among the easiest remedy to alleviate pain during menstruation. Take some cinnamon and grind it in a blender and make powder out of it. Now boil some water and add cinnamon powder to it and allow the water to settle for some time. Now strain the water and add some honey to it. Drink this water every day (one time in morning and once in evening). If you can bear drinking bitter water, you can do so without including any honey to it.

6. Brew some herbal tea

It is a good idea to turn to herbal teas to treat period cramps. Boil 2 teaspoons of the bark of any herbal teas in a cup of water, simmer for about 15 minutes, and drink it three times a day. Before you try this remedy you should surely consult your doctor and especially if you are on certain pills or are diabetic.

7. Tank up on magnesium

You should target to boost up the magnesium content in the body as it helps to ease cramps. Generally, magnesium is found in small traces in most foods, and hence you can get magnesium from your diet as well. An ounce of dry almonds or one half cup of boiled spinach each has about 80g of magnesium and hence, a good idea to include them in your diet.
