There are several reasons to dark underarm skin aside from dark elbows and knees. These are actually those parts of the body that gather most dirt, sweat more and turn oddly dark and coarse over a period of me. And it is most noticeable when you wear sleeveless, or a short dress revealing your knees. It just makes others doubt your hygiene levels, and you too feel conscious of your dark elbows and underarms every time you step out.

The creams available on the market hardly do anything to make your skin in the underarms fair and things get worse with the repeated use of deodorants. Truth be told, it is actually very easy to get fairer underarms, elbows and knees with some everyday ingredients found in your kitchen. These recipes are 100% natural and guarantee results in less than a month.

1. Lemon

Lemon is known for its exfoliating properties and is also a great bleach. Squeeze the juice of a fresh lemon and apply it on your elbows, knees and underarms. Allow it to dry for about 15 minutes. Rinse off with cool water. You can do this everyday for a couple of weeks to experience the difference.

2. Baking soda

Baking soda’s abrasive properties make it a great scrub to get rid of the film of dead skin that forms over the skin. This is the predominant cause of skin darkening in these areas. For this you need two tablespoon baking soda and one tablespoon water. Blend it into a smooth consistency and apply it on the affected areas. Massage it vigorously for about 5 minutes, and leave it on for another 10 minutes. Do this everyday of the week for one month and the colour of your underarms, knees and elbows would have lightened.

3. Aloe vera gel

Aloe vera soothes skin and reduces dark spots. It also helps treat sunburns. Just apply some aloe vera gel on your knees, elbows and underarms, and allow it to seep in for about 20 minutes. Rinse off with cool water. Repeat this ritual everyday for at least two weeks and the coarse dark skin in these areas will make way for a smooth and fair one.

4. Cucumber

Cucumber is a cooling agent and a natural skin lightener. Extremely beneficial for treating dark underarms. Blend a cucumber, now add one tablespoon lemon juice and one teaspoon turmeric to the mix.  Apply the paste in the affected areas in a thick coat. Leave it to dry for about 20 minutes. Rinse off with cool water. Do this thrice a week for three weeks and you will have naturally fair underarms, knees and elbows.

6. Olive oil and sugar

Sugar is a natural exfoliator and olive oil a great nourishing agent. Sugar also helps remove the dead skin cells. Take two teaspoon of olive oil and one teaspoon sugar, combine it thoroughly. Now massage the affected areas with this mix for about 5 minutes. Allow it to dry for about 15 minutes. Rinse off with cool water. Practice this ritual every alternate day for three weeks and you will notice the improvement in the texture of your skin.

7. Potatoes

Blitz a potato with a dash of water, and apply that paste on the dark skin of your underarms, elbows and knees. Leave it on for about 15 minutes and then rinse off with cool water. Potatoes help remove dead skin more effectively than others owing to an enzyme called Catecholase. Do this thrice a week for two weeks for best results.

Almond oil is a great skincare product. Just take a tablespoon of almond oil in a bowl and massage it vigorously over the affected areas for about 5 minutes. Further on, allow it to seep into the skin for another 10 minutes. Rinse off with cool water. Do it everyday for two weeks and there won’t be any dark, coarse skin in your underarms, elbows or knees.
