One of the most trusted beauty ingredient for generations now, the aloe vera, is to most people more than a decorative plant in the balcony.

Rich in vitamin C, E and beta carotene that provides the aloe vera with both moisturising and anti-ageing qualities, the plant does more than plain nourish your skin and cut its oiliness. Drinking a juice made of aloe vera on an empty stomach in the morning can enhance digestion and cure stomach cramps. From aloe vera-based dietary supplements, facial gels, under-eye cream, cleansers and toners, soap bars to scrub, there is an entire beauty and health industry thriving as a consequence of this very ordinary looking plant, but one with extraordinary benefits.

We suggest easy tricks to use aloe vera to get a soft and beautiful skin. You will be totally amazed with the results.

1. Wash the leaves really well

You need to first wash the leaves thoroughly without breaking or peeling them. This removes any impurity on the surface of the leaves.

2. Aloe vera leaves need to be a little soft

Gently thump on the leaves to soften them.

3. Break the leaf into two halves for use

Slice the leaves into two halves. Ensure you don’t cut a very large portion because you are not going to need the entire leaf at once. Just cut the portion size you think you would be using.

4. Deeply cut the edges of the aloe vera leaf

Before you can go ahead and peel the leaf, make sure you cut off the edges first. Use a knife to do that. You need to cut the edges from both the sides. This way the leaf opens up and it is easier for you to peel it.

5. Split open the leaf

After slitting the edges, use your fingertips to open the leaf. And in case it doesn’t open properly, use a knife to slit through the middle of the leaf.

6. Take out the pulp of the aloe vera

You will need a spoon to scrape out the translucent pulp of the aloe vera leaf. Make sure you let go nothing to waste. You can now store this juice in a bowl.

7. Apply the aloe vera juice on your face

Gently massage the aloe vera pulp into your face and neck. You can even use the drained aloe vera leaf to massage your face. Leave the mask on for about 20 minutes until it is thoroughly dry. Rinse it off with cold water, and see the difference in your complexion. It even heals any kind of skin irritation or acne.

Don’t soap your face after using aloe vera gel

This is in itself a wonderful face wash and cleanser. Don’t kill its nourishing quality by using a face wash or soap on your face. Let the natural aloe vera mask show its effects on your skin.

Towel dry your face gently. You face will look clean, fresh and bright, and your skin soft and moisturised. If possible use it everyday for better results.

You can store this aloe vera gel in a clean glass bowl and keep it in a cool place.
