Hair loss after a certain age is inevitable. But everything depends on how rapidly it happens. There are several factors that come into play for making a person shed hair. The most important ones being a family history of balding, receding hairlines, hormonal changes and imbalances especially during pregnancy, childbirth or the beginnings of menopause, medical conditions such as scalp infections and diseases, and often due to medication like excessive use of birth control pills, or use of drugs to treat high blood pressure, heart condition and arthritis among others.
If untimely hair loss is frustrating you, despair no more. There are some superfoods which are very common in our kitchens, that can actually make up for the hair loss, by helping you grow a thick and shiny mane.
1. Indian Gooseberry (Amla)
We make pickles with amla, we use amla hair oil. Amla is put to so many uses in the Indian kitchen. Rich in vitamin C, the Indian gooseberry makes up for the loss of this vitamin in the body which is a reason behind hair loss. Owing to its antioxidant, exfoliatory and anti-inflammatory qualities, the Indian gooseberry helps to maintain a healthy scalp and promotes growth of new hair.
How to use:
Take a tablespoon of Indian gooseberry and mix it with a tablespoon of lemon juice. Now rigorously massage your scalp with this liquid. Cover your hair with a shower cap and leave it on overnight. In the morning, rinse your hair with a gentle shampoo. Carry out this ritual at least thrice a week and in a month’s time you will see the change in your scalp.
2. Aloe vera
The enzymes in aloe vera promotes the growth of hair. Also the plant has some alkalizing properties which can bring the pH level of the scalp and hair at a healthy level. Those with excessively itchy and inflammatory scalp can benefit from regular use of aloe vera. Of course it also gives you relief from dandruff problem.
How to use:
Use the aloe vera juice or gel on your scalp. Massage it lightly. Leave it on for at least 2 hours. Rinse it off with warm water. Repeat this ritual three times a week and you will see unbelievable results.
3. Fenugreek
The hormone antecedents in fenugreek make it very effective in treating hair fall and promoting the growth of natural, healthy hair by rebuilding hair follicles. The herb also contains nicotinic acid and proteins that boost hair growth.
How to use:
Soak 1 cup of fenugreek seeds overnight in water. Make a paste of it and apply it on your hair thoroughly. Keep it covered with a shower cap for about an hour. Rinse off with a gentle shampoo. Use this natural remedy daily for a whole month for best results.
4. Beetroot
All the nutrients that are needed for healthy hair growth such as potassium, calcium, protein, vitamin B and C are all present in this underground vegetable.
How to use:
Drink a lot of beetroot juice. Add to your diet some carrot juice, spinach juice as well. Make this a part of your daily diet and see the results.
5. Flaxseeds
Flaxseeds prevents hair loss and promotes hair growth owing to its richness in Omega-3 fatty acids.
How to use:
With a glass of water have one tablespoon of freshly ground flaxseeds everyday in the morning. Another way would be to add flaxseeds to your salads and shakes.
6. Coconut milk
Loaded with proteins and essential fats, coconut milk is a great ingredient in preventing hair loss and furthering hair growth.
How to use:
Add freshly grated coconut to a saucepan of water. Let it simmer for about 5 minutes, and strain soon after. Allow it to come down to room temperature. Now, apply this milk on your scalp from root to tip. Leave it on for about half an hour. Rinse off your hair with a mild shampoo. Carry out this ritual thrice a week for a full month and you will experience new hair growth.
