If you have both decided to be parents, you cannot wait to get pregnant fast, there are two things you need to primarily ensure – eat healthy and have regular sex. But more than just sex, the technical point here is to have sex on the right days to conceive.

Before making any effort to get pregnant you need to ensure you mind and body are healthy. Get regular exercise, eat wholesome meals, avoid taking stress, and get off cigarette and alcohol. Once you have scored a decent level of fitness and well-being, make every effort to conceive your child.

What is pregnancy

Pregnancy happens when the egg released from the ovary is fertilised by the sperm. This process of conception happens easily to some, and with some difficulty to the rest. Out of a 100, about 80 women conceive in the first year of their trying for a baby.

Understanding a woman’s menstrual cycle

By tracking your menstrual cycle you can arrive at the date of your ovulation, the day an egg is released from the ovary. This is the only way you can get pregnant fast. If you have a 28 day cycle, count 14 days from the first day of your last period. That is the estimated day you will ovulate. Now from the time it is released the egg survives for 12-24 hours. At this time for pregnancy to happen the egg needs to be fertilised by a sperm in the fallopian tubes.

Best days to have sex

If you want to get pregnant fast, have sex at least 3-4 days before your ovulation so that when the egg is released, there is already sperm in the fallopian tubes to fertilise it. Sperm has a lifespan of about a week in a woman’s body, and hence you can have regular sex for a few days in the lead up to your ovulation.

Timing is everything

You need to be mindful of the days you have sex to have an early pregnancy. While the egg lives for 12-24 hours, the sperm has a longer shelf life of about 7 days. In order to boost your chances of conceiving, have intercourse for at least a couple of days before your ovulation, and most importantly, on the day of ovulation. This is so that the egg released from the ovary is met with sperm in the fallopian tube, and the egg is readily fertilised by the sperm. In case you have a 35 day menstrual cycle, you are likely to ovulate around Day 21.

How to know when you are ovulating

To get pregnant fast, you need to track your ovulation cycle for a few months. Here are the symptoms you need to look out for.

  1. Increased frequency of vaginal discharge and even a change in its colour. The mucus would be creamy-white.
  2. There will be a slight increase in your BBT (Basal Body Temperature). Immediately after getting up in the morning you can check the temperature, and you will get a sense of your ovulation cycle.

But of the two, the easiest is to track the change in the colour of your cervical mucus.

Sex position to get pregnant fast

It is true that some position are better than the others to help the sperm enter the fallopian tubes with ease. A position that can give the sperm an upward push, boosts you chance of getting pregnant fast when your ovary releases an egg.

Yoga to bust stress

Despite being in your most fertile period, a study by Oxford University found that women with stress enzyme were 12 per cent less likelier to conceive. So, you need to find ways of relaxation. Join yoga classes, mediate for a while in the morning, go for jogs, get involved in one form of physical activity or another. This boosts the flow of endorphin (happy hormone) into your system.

Enjoy sex, don’t make it a chore

It is important your partner and you enjoy having sex, and not look at it as a means to have a child. Else it can become a very frustrating process. Look at spending more time together, share your meals, watch movies together, and all this will eventually add up to a good sizzle between the sheets.

What to eat to get pregnant fast

Make fruits and vegetables and integral part of your diet. You need a fair dose of vitamins, minerals and fibre to aide digestion and prevent constipation. A pregnant woman should indulge in starchy foods such as bread, corn, potatoes, oats, cereals and noodles among others, since they are a dominant source of energy. Though, it is ideal to choose whole wheat products instead of processed flour. Don’t neglect the proteins, from pulses, beans, fish, poultry to nuts, each of these add to your body’s composition and ability to conceive easily. But keep off from cream, butter, cakes, cookies, burgers and aerated beverages.

Get off birth control ahead of time

While this is the most obvious thing to do, there are certain birth control forms that lower your fertility for a period of time, even after discontinuing them. With the pill you can expect your fertility to be back almost immediately, and fall back on the same menstrual cycle as before, but with methods like Depo-Provera it might take a little longer, since it is a shot taken every 3 months to provide protection against unwanted pregnancy. The birth control patch and the birth control ring work pretty much on the same logic as the pills, you won’t lose any time there. So depending on the birth control method you are following, stop their dosage in time to open up your ovulation cycle.

Follow these steps and you are sure to be pregnant before a year.
