Not so long ago when the 109-year-old Jessie Gallan of Scotland expressly attributed her long years to avoiding men and eating porridge, she left many bewildered, and the remainder with plenty to chew upon. Gallan’s marital status to this day remains ‘unmarried’, and as per a news report, she had a very humble beginning, born in a tiny farm cottage where she slept on a straw mattress with her five sisters and a brother.
She believed her healthy life was owing to her daily habits like getting plenty of exercise, eating a warm bowl of porridge in the morning, and the never-get-married maxim. She when on to impress that men are more trouble than they are worth, and her secret to a long life has most definitely been staying away from them.
In the silver years of her life, there might after all be a modicum of truth in Gallan’s claims. For men are we sacrificing our health? Here are some points not quite in their favour.
Men give you BP
Men and their stubborn ways! You get sick of telling them to not dump the wet towel on the bed, but who the hell is listening. And one day you are enraged as a bull, and scream your lungs out. Of course that nagging headache steals back and your blood pressure shoots through the roof. Remember, what a wise man, err…woman, once said!
Men cause anxiety attacks
He hasn’t been answering his phone in a whole day, and he was supposed to tell you how the job interview went. You are going batshit crazy wondering whatever happened. Later on, on persistent calling he casually informs you that he was with a friend and couldn’t call you back. The creeping anxiety you live with all day is awful for your heart, and invariably cuts short your life span.
No men, no heartbreak
There won’t be another morning of waking up amid reams of wet tissue papers post a painful breakup. You don’t have to be so sad that you’d need a tub of ice-cream and some retail therapy to come off it. Men cause a lot of unwarranted pain, and you don’t deserve any. Not good for your health, we say. You should be happy and free, always!
