Potatoes are your weakness, but you would rather avoid them because they make you fat, they pile up calories. Though more often than not you wonder how to stay away from them. Potatoes are ubiquitous, you vegetable seller has it, your veggie basket in the kitchen is full of it, and not to mention, most Indian cooking is largely based on potatoes. We love to add potatoes to almost everything. We deep fry them, saute them, cook them, but almost never have them boiled. And this is where the problem lies.
Contrary to popular belief, potato is a very healthy vegetable that can actually make you lose weight. It is matter of how you eat it, in fact a healthy diet of boiled potatoes can burn fat and keep you in shape. When included in your daily diet potatoes can drastically lower your overall calorie intake. In addition to that boiled potatoes are rich in minerals, Vitamin C, Vitamin B-complex apart from potassium, and phosphorous. This makes them extremely low in calories and fat, and owing to their richness in fibre makes you feel full, preventing you from further bingeing.
Remember it depends on how you prepare the vegetable, whether you boil it and season with natural herbs or load it up with butter.
With this quick and easy recipe you can enjoy your love of potatoes and lose weight all the same.
Ingredients (serves 2):
1 Large potato
1 Small onion
2-3 Dry red chilli
Salt to taste
2 tsp Refined oil
Method of Preparation:
Peel the potato and boil it in a pressure cooker with two glasses of water. After two whistles, get it off the gas. Wait till the steam comes out fully.
In the meantime, slice the onions in thin strips and saute them along with the dry red chillies split from the center.
Allow them to turn nice and brown before turning off the flame. The pungency of the dry red chillies would have infused into the onion.
Now, take the lid off the pressure cooker and mash the potato using the back of a spoon into a fine, even consistency.
Sprinkle the mix of sauted onion and chillies into the potato and mix it up well so that the sweet, pungent flavours are well incorporated. Add salt as per your taste as you blend in.
You can eat this with your daily meal either at lunch or dinner. The potatoes will taste creamy, crunchy and absolutely healthy. Have this for one month everyday, and your overall calorie intake would have substantially reduced, making you lose weight so quickly.
