If you are suffering from diabetes, you are probably suffering from health problems every single day! Even if the disease is controlled it seems to be uncontrolled and every time before you take a bite of your food, you end up thinking if your condition will get worse. And of course, there is a valid reason behind thinking about diabetes all the time as diabetics are prone to blood vessel damage, blindness, high blood pressure, stroke, kidney disease, infection, heart disease, nerve damage, limb amputation risk.
While there is no sure shot cure for diabetes, expect keeping it under check, here are a few home remedies for treating diabetes.
1. Drink Indian gooseberry (amla) juice regularly
Indian gooseberry is one of the most effective fruits that helps lower the level of diabetes. Due to being extremely rich in Vitamin C, gooseberry helps to promote proper functioning of pancreas in the body. Take few gooseberries and let them dry for some days. If not dried, cut them into slices and make paste of it. Keep this paste in a clean cloth and squeeze out the juice. Now drink this juice every morning. If you cannot find gooseberry in the market, there are several brands selling ready-made amla juice, you could pick one of those up.
2. Take cinnamon every morning
Of various Indian spices, cinnamon has the ability to lower the sugar level in your body and keep diabetes under control. Due to bio components present in the spice it helps fight and prevent diabetes. All you need to do is mix one teaspoon of cinnamon powder to one cup of lukewarm water. Drink this every day in the morning. If this is too strong for you, you can boil some cinnamon powder in water, and then strain the water and drink it.
3. Soak mango leaves in water and drink in empty stomach
Tender mango leaves are the perfect antidote to diabetes as they regulate the level of insulin in the body. Apart from controlling diabetes in the body, mango leaves also help purify blood. You need to take 10-15 mango leaves and soak them in water overnight. Now drink this water in the morning in an empty stomach. Dry these leaves and crush them and take one teaspoon of mango powder every morning.
4. Drink a glass of cactus juice daily to reduce the level of sugar in your body
Various studies have proved that cactus juice can actually benefit a person suffering from diabetes. Cactus juice can help regulate insulin level and stabilise the glucose levels in the body. It is said that drinking cactus juice every morning can help lower the level of sugar in the body by 30 per cent.
5. Take fresh basil leaves to increase the level of insulin
These fresh green leaves have potential to lower the sugar level in the body. Due to large amount of anti oxidants present in the basil leaves, it helps to relieve oxidative stress which later combines to increase the level of insulin in the body.
6. Fenugreek seeds
Fenugreek is high on fibre which helps to slow down the absorption of carbohydrates in the body further leading to diabetes. Fenugreek seeds help to control diabetes and lower the level of sugar level due to its hypoglycaemic activity. Take two teaspoons of fenugreek seeds and soak it in water and leave it overnight. Now drink this water along with the seeds in the morning on an empty stomach. Fenugreek seeds help to stimulate the secretion of glucose-dependent insulin thus preventing diabetes.
7. Utilise the power of aloe vera in treating diabetes
Aloe vera has the power to lower glucose level in the body rapidly. Aloe Vera contains phytosterols that has anti-hyperglycemic effects for type 2 diabetes. You need to take one teaspoon of aloe vera gel in water and mix it with one small spoon of turmeric and bay leaf power. Stir all the ingredients well and drink this juice every morning. You can also drink fresh aloe vera juice in the morning or once in a day.
